May God bless you with discomfort at
easy answers, half truths, and
superficial relationships
so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression
and exploitation of people
so that you may work for justice,
freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed
for those who suffer pain, rejection,
hunger and war so that you may reach out your hand
to comfort them
and to turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with
 enough foolishness
to believe
that you can make a difference in the world
so that you can do
what others claim cannot be done
to bring justice and kindness
to all our children and the poor.


A Franciscan Benediction



Family went to visit with the Victorious people Sunday.  We have not settled on a church, but Victory is definitely comfortable enough to rest at as we continue this journey. And truthfully, the message seems to keep pace with where the blog has been going lately....goals, priorities, dreams, burdens.

A blessed life isn't one in which you have everything you want.  That would be called the self centered life.  A blessed life is one which has been given purpose, a burden.

A burden is when I am bothered by something, divinely unsettled, because it bothers God's heart.

Of course, there are wrong ways to deal with this burden and one of those ways is to complain about it.  If you have enough of a burden to complain about something, you need to realize that not everyone sees the same problem.  God did not give us all the same burden.   As PC said, "If you are rowing the boat, you ain't got time to rock it."

That is an interesting string of ideas, quite thought provoking as I've thought upon myself as being very blessed but with a different meaning. Thanks for the insights

He's Calling

I didn't sleep well last night. I kept waking up, wanting to write. Those nights are annoying, particularly when I am working 12 hours the next day so I have no business getting out of bed to write. But here is the thing that kept bugging me...what if God is calling us not to greatness, but to smallness? Yeah, weird thing to keep a person awake, huh? Our group that went to the Leadership Summit are praying for ways that we can put what we learned into practice. Look around your neighborhood-there is so much need. Look around your coworkers-enough need to depress you. Look around the world-so much need it can paralyze. And then I think about this thing with callings... What if it isn't about being called to a thing, but to be like Him? What if it doesn't matter where I am or what I do but how I do it? The Reason for the Season

As all my friends texted holiday wishes this Christmas, one stood out.  This one seemed to go against all the "Keep Christ in Christmas" and "Jesus is the reason for the season" bumper stickers.  This text said simply, U r the reason 4 the season. At first I thought she wrote it incorrectly, so I read it again looking for the typo.  But, there wasn't one. That's when it hit me: without me, there wouldn't be a need for Christmas.
